The magic of country music made its way to the hub of Silicon Valley, as the cast of “Nashville” performed at the historic City National Civic on April 14, 2016. Aside from the high voltage drama, love-triangles, and the behind-the-scenes look at how one makes it to the top of the country music scene, the one element that keeps the show together is the amazing music.
Fans of the show were in for a country-style treat, as their favorite characters were in-the-flesh and live on stage. Instead of yelling out the names of the actors, fans hollered out the name of the character that each actor portrays on the show. This was a true case of life imitating art, imitating life.
Clare Bowen, Chris Carmack, Charles Esten, Aubrey Peeples, and Jonathan Jackson took to the stage for solo acts, duets, and a final group performance. The closeness of the cast was evident, as they each introduced and hugged one another as they entered the stage. Some of the fan favorite songs they sang were: “Far From You”, “Black Roses”, and “A Life That’s Good”. The actors also sang songs that have yet to air on the show–an exclusive and special sneak-hear for fans in the audience.
Being at the Civic and watching these talented actors/musicians perform, it felt as though we, the audience, were watching a performance at “The Bluebird Cafe”; the venue where the characters have performed on the show.
Nashville fans–as Charles Esten (Deacon Claybourne) pointed out–also have an nickname. Esten thanked all the “Nashies” in the audience who attended. He stated that the show would not be what it is without the fans. He also stated that, for those who cannot travel to Nashville, Nashville travelled to them. During one of his songs, Esten went out into the audience, hand-swiped and hugged fans along his route back to the stage.
The show ended with the entire cast singing “A Life That’s Good”. A truly beautiful and deep song about being grateful for the simple yet necessary things that one has, it was a perfect way to end the show on a high note.
