The “democratization of fashion” is the removal of influence in the fashion industry from the major power players and magazine editors to a larger more general public (like fashion bloggers). It began in 2003 when Kathryn Finney of The Budget Fashionista became the first independent writer to be invited to New York Fashion Week and has continued to evolve with new technologies.
Today, we have Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Youtube that all have two things in common: they are easy enough for anyone to use, and they can all be scaled into massive followings.
