Fall Fashion 2010

Many of us at Helium are sad to watch these last weeks of summer slip by, but alas the end is near. The lazy days and warm nights filled with colorful prints and young hemlines will soon be behind us.  Now is not the time to fret, rather take your last sips of lemonade and brace yourself ladies, fall fashion is here.

This fall is all about ladylike decadence.  Luxe dressing is here this season making an ever so elegant statement.  It is time to become that vixen in velvet, lace, brocade, and especially fur.  Rather go naked than wear fur? Fake it with luxe alternatives to the real thing.

This season has taken inspirations from the past, focusing on the 1950’s.  Pull out those calf length skirts, bustiers, feminine blouses, and kitten heels. Accessorize with lady like bags in crocodile prints, fur collars, and oxfords on foot.  This fall’s woman is polished, elegant, and lethal.  Designers looked to history’s most stylish influential women, delivering for both the Jackies and Marilyns of the modern day.

For a 1960’s look, think Mod.  This season’s runways were filled with gold, from dresses to bangles.  “Twiggy-ify” yourself with mini skirts and sweater dresses.  Complement your new look by pinning on some brooches and slipping into some knee high, lace up boots.

Miss  the 1970’s?  Take a trip down memory lane with buttery silk blouses paired with feminine trousers or reinvent the 1980’s with cowgirl boots and fringe swaying from anything from purses to cropped tees.

Of course you can always add an edge to your elegant look with military, lace up boots or cargo and olive pieces.  Look to animal prints to add fierceness to any outfit.  These savage items can be seen as an investment as animal prints come in every few seasons or so.

For the men of the Silicon Valley, this time warped trend is also at play.  Time to look to your inner Don Draper, mad men. Classically tailored suits dominate the fall collections.  Although you will be looking sharp, a suit maybe a bit fancy for an occasion such as class.  For school, look to fabrics such as tweed, corduroy and flannel this fall.  Feel dared to wear a tie even when it is not acquired.  Compliment your classic look with boots, oxfords, and loafers on your feet or a canvas messenger bag to carry your workload this school year.
